Emerging netlabels (3): Audioexit

Here’s the interview with Robert Kiss (P.c.m.n.) and Maurel, the co-founders of Audioexit netlabel. Audioexit is based in Hungary and it releases quality electronic music from young and talanted producers in the following styles: techno (dark, industrial, detroit), minimal/experimental, any deep/any progressive.

1. Could you tell me a few words about yourselves. Who are you? Where do you come from?

Robert Kiss (P.c.m.n.): Audioexit is a hungarian netlabel founded by two producers, Maurel and P.c.m.n.. Our goal is to promote young and talented artists to the world, mainly from Hungary, but we are also accepting music from artists from all over the world. The label consists from three sublabels separated by music genres which the label represents.

2. Why did you decide to open your own netlabel?

P.c.m.n.: We decided to start the label to release our own and our friends’ works in official format, however we dont even thought that so many artists will find us with their demos, so till now the founders had only one full release and one appearance on the first compilation of ae-tech sublabel.

Maurel: Personally, my big dream came true with this netlabel. And I am very proud that we can introduce fresh, talented producers to the world.

3. What kind of music genres do you accept and distribute?

P.c.m.n.: The main profile from Audioexit is techno, but we also release minimal/experimental techno and on the 3rd sublabel ae-deep is place for deep house, progressive house or maybe downtempo and such stuff.

Quotation.Personally, my big dream came true with this netlabel. And I am very proud that we can introduce fresh, talented producers to the world.

4. How do you distribute music? Is it available exclusively in the form of MP3/OGG/FLAC downloads? Are there “the real-world” (i mean CD/vinyl) releases also available?

P.c.m.n.: Our releases are available only in digital format, we distribute them in 320kb/s mp3 , of course with Creative Commons licence.

5. Money… Is your netlabel a not-for-profit entity? Or do you think that the netlabels should earn some money for artists?

P.c.m.n.: Audioexit is a fully non-profit label. We dont earn any money from our releases and our artists are also accepting this, however i think the artists could earn some money for their work, but this is a bit harder business, because there are many big and known labels even in the digital label scene, so little labels like us havent a really big chance to success, but i hope that will change in the future and quality will be more important as the name.

Maurel: Some netlabels solved that problem with running both free and not free part of the label.

6. Did you encounter any particular difficulties in starting the netlabel?

P.c.m.n.: Yes, there where some difficulties with our website on the start, but we could make it work properly, and now its avaiable in booth hungarian and english. There are allways some little problems on the beginning, but furtunately we don’t had major problems, which endangered the start of the label.

Audioexit crew.

7. How do you promote your netlabel?

P.c.m.n.: Our label is promoted in several netlabel catalogs and forums and even blogs, also myspace is a good place for promotion i think, many of our artists contacted us via myspace and not via the contact form on our website. We are also there on some partner sites, and we are allways searching for new ways to make our label known.

8. How do you encourage artists to become involved in your project?

Maurel: I suggest to every new artist to send demos because having releases at netlabels can be a very good start for every of them, they can be known by a lot of listeners worldwide! Internet has no limits.

9. Do you accept demo tapes? Where demos and/or links to music should be send to?

P.c.m.n.: Yes we do. Demos can be sent to us via e-mail, or on myspace. Every info about sending demos can be found on our website.

10. Do you have any specific plans for the future?

P.c.m.n.: Yes we are working on some projects for the future, but they should be a secret now, we will let everyone know about news and new projects if they will be realized.

Thank you for the interview.
