Netaudio 2008 – the official announcement

Netaudio 2008 will take place in London this autumn. Here’s the official announcement:

Netaudio’08 will take place from 22nd to 25th October 2008 at Shunt Lounge, London SE1. It will celebrate the creative output of networked musicians and online communities with talks, workshops, showcases and performances.

Netaudio’08 will play host to a broad range of live musical acts all the way from well established musicians through to undiscovered new talent – the only criteria is that they sound good and that they engage via the medium of the Internet. Musically Netaudio’08 will provide a programme spanning genres and cultural boundaries and embracing the widest possible selection of sounds humming through the Internet.

Within the conference side of the festival, Netaudio’08 will explore the creative practice and merit of digital networking tools. Workshops will share knowledge about music production and digital distribution whilst presentations will take a lead in the discussion of altered user behavior in the networked society – both aiming to engage the thought provoking process of music production, distribution and consumption in an age of networked communication.

More information about the upcoming events will follow soon. Keep yourself updated by subscribing to our blog-feed or newsletter and join us on one of the featured social websites.

Emerging netlabels: oneLoop

This is an e-mail interview with i-day, founder of the oneLoop netlabel. oneLoop concentrates on releasing the work of independent electronica artists, and supporting indietronica movement.

Could you tell me a few words about yourself. Who are you? Where do you come from?

My friends call me i-day, now I’am living in Surabaya – East Java, Indonesia. I do web design and development for a living, and create music or videoart in my free time.

oneLoop logo.

Why did you decide to open your own netlabel?

It’s triggered by the idea to create a music sharing platform, a place for talented bedroom/PC/laptop musicians to spread their works, who weren’t getting the attention they deserved in Indonesian music industry. Music is great, and giving great music away for free is so much better.

What kind of music genres do you accept and distribute?

Regarding to our tagline; “indietronica net-label”, we concentrate on releasing the work of independent electronica artists. We are not restricting ourserlves to any particular electronic musical styles, as long it’s D.I.Y-produced using computer technology, so they can release it at oneLoop. It’s aim to support indietronica movement.

Quotation.Music is great, and giving great music away for free is so much better.

How do you distribute music? Is it available exclusively in the form of MP3/OGG/FLAC downloads? Are there “the real-world” (i mean CD/vinyl) releases also available?

All releases at oneLoop are in digital download, 192kb/s mp3 format.

How do you encourage artists to become involved in your project?

The most thing to do is to make them appreciate the fact that this platform is a gift economy in action, and understand what netlabels stand for in this commercial world of music industry.

Do you accept demo tapes? Where demos and/or links to music should be send to?

Just drop an Email to 1loop1heart[at]oneloop[dot]net with specific links to the audio files in it (we’re only accept online submission).

Fresh Poulp Records presents Pix

Fresh Poulp Records have recently presented first album by Pix (from France). His works gained a lot of attention and were reviewed by at least two music blogs. This release is available for download here.

Quotation.I met Pix thanks to myspace. Pix offers an genre blending album, from electronica to ambient & hip-hop. Add some melancholic tunes alongside darker tracks, to give contrast and homogeneity to these ten works. Last but not least, two nice collabs, the first with the female singer Enoalie, the second with Singaporean sound designer SonicBrat.

10th release by WeirdAndWired

WeirdAndWired netlabel had its first birthday recently, and also pronounced 10th release to come. It’s Mithra – Winter Spleen EP.

Quotation. There will be three EPs released in three consecutive weeks starting with the well known and beloved Mithra, followed by his fellow Helico Bacter and ending with Org. Well, now, you have to imagine us, standing in front of a huge audience, dressed up to the max in a beautiful frilly gown and a shiny tux (you may decide, who is wearing what), the faces stained with tears, the voices shaky, saying “Thank you to everybody, who supported us!”

You will find 10th release here.

Rocketship remixed

I’ve recently discovered 7-track release by Diplomatik netlabel. It’s Rocketship remixed by Every Kid On Speed. You will find it here.

Quotation. With technological contributions from macedonian, german, and turkish space agencies, every kid on speed’s “rocketship remixed” launches on a mission to explore the far reaches of the solar system. Beyond the exosphere and into the unknown, the rocketship’s experiments in lush melody and deconstructed micro-glitch mark the dawn of a new diplomatik era.
